Al-Boot, the Sequel


What is it with me and the boot? Twice in JC and now once in Cairo, during one of the few times that I was in a private car.

There's nowhere to park in this city. Freelance parking assistants hang around and guard spots, guide drivers into the spots, then demand baksheesh.

I always thought the blue-coated parking boys in Morocco were just on the blag, but closer inspection of a guide book revealed they are actually sanctioned by the government and are semi-official. I wonder whether it is the same in Cairo or whether these blokes are just chancing it...
