The Green Line

Most travel articles about Egypt mention that the Nile gives Egypt life, that it makes a ribbon of green that cuts through a tremendous desert.

Nowhere is that more visible than from the sky. To the left, life. To the right, seemingly endless plains of sand, stretching from the western bank of the Nile from Luxor all the way to Libya and beyond.

If that blog post seems a bit sparse, it's because I am feeling so lazy today. I was planning on going to Suez to see the ships gliding through the desert, but all I managed to do today was buy a lightbulb. I got the right kind at least, the screw-in kind instead of the push-in kind.

Thanks--the balloon ride was worth it for the photos!

I can see that! Makes me think one day I might overcome my fear of hights and go on a balloon ride, might be worth it!

The good news is that the basket comes up to mid-chest, so you feel kind of safe. The bad news is that my colleague here is afraid of heights, and the one time he went up in a balloon (at Sharm El-Sheikh), he was absolutely petrified and did not enjoy it at all.

By the way, that isn't the Nile in the photo and I didn't mean to imply that it is. It's either the road or a small irrigation canal. The Nile is farther on to the left.
