Embarrassing to Admit

I can't figure out how to work the backyard weed-whacker. I turn it on and run it over the grass and all it does is flatten it.

Any experts?

Ah... maybe the cutting cord is missing? I looked and there isn't one. But there is this sort of round engine that looks like it might have blades.

I guess a trip to the basement is in order, to examine the brand and look at the manufacturer's website.

Oh, I get it.

My "Toro Electric Trimmer" looks like this, but there's none of that white cord.

Looks like I'm due for another trip to Home Depot. Too bad they don't have a loyalty program. I'd be well on my way to a sturdy electric drill by now.

It's also just possible that the cord has retreated inside the coil there and you can pull out a length. Amazing! Someone who's never worked a week whacker!

I'm gonna master this weed whacker. I'll show you. I'll show you all.

Defeat! I found a tiny piece of cord sticking out but can't get it any further out, even when I tap the button on the "electric trimmer" as instructed. And I can't get the lid off the spool. This might be a brute force issue, an area I do not have mastery of.

Here's the part I find so challenging. Sad, aren't I?

Removing the spool:
Twist the cap off counterclockwise.

Tap the button??? I think they mean push it in hard!

But get someone to show you. If there are not handy types around, take it to the hardware store, lower your chin and bat your eyes...

Or just ask nicely.
