Up for Some Culture

I am getting a late start (typical) and attempting to get to Saqqara and Dahshur today.

Apparently the best way to do this is to get myself to the Giza Pyramids and rent a horse from there.

But that's three hours in each direction, and six hours on a horse in the desert actually sound highly unpleasant to me. (I went horseback for 4 days once in the Grand Tetons and my butt still hurts--and that was in the early 90s.)

The second best way is by tour or taxi. I am not looking forward to taxi negotiations. I am going to start by searching for the bus that goes to the Giza Pyramids. If that becomes frustrating, I'll get on the metro to Giza and wing it from there. I just have to bear in mind that the fun is in the chase.

Howabout an iron horse?

mmm...GS1200... that's what I'm gonna bring to Egypt!

I know you can ride, Marie. I've seen you do it!

I think you and Steve are the only two who have ever seen me ride a motorcycle. But need I remind you... I dropped it immediately! Twice. I'm better on the back of one, truth be told.

But if I thought I could rent a scooter to go out into the desert, I sure would. I used to ride David's scooter when you guys lived in Hollywood.

So I made it to Saqqara but not to Dahshur. I'm too tired to write about it now. I'll blog it in the a.m. Right now I need to eat and have my daily addiction--a fresh mango juice.

I've been through the desert on a horse with no name
It felt good to be out of the rain
In the desert you can remember your name
'Cause there ain't no one for to give you no pain
La, la, la, la, la, la, la, la...

Sorry.

I'll stop now.
